During the last year, around 20,000 medical procedures were conducted by means of surgeon controlled robot. This increased use makes for many questions in the future of robotic surgery.  The challenges of sensory guided surgical robots are abundant and varied. Particular issues are manipulation and gripping, especially during suturing.  For continued success, there must be multidisciplinary collaboration between engineers and surgeons.

This seminar will provide substantial debate on the obstacles faced by both parties. Experts in keyhole surgery and orthopaedic surgery, along with the creators of evolutionary surgical robots, will provide views and set a platform for discussion.

This seminar will provide a state-of-the-art update on robotic surgery in the UK, Europe, the USA and China, with keynote speeches from leading international figures. The event will also feature a half-day live transmission from Da Vinci robotic surgery theatre.
