Robotic Arms and Hands

Dear all,

last sunday, when we went to the beach in South Cyprus near Larnaka, I met there a woman in a wheel chair and according to our chat, this woman recently had a devastating car accident which took away one arm and will force that poor woman to sit in a wheelchair forever.

As car accidents are continuing to take limbs away from people (2000 per year in France) and it seems that this threat is unlikely to recede, some companies like Segway are now investigating robotics to help people recover some very useful mobility since our world is still not very well designed for the handicaped yet (especially the flats and it is really a pity that promoters never think about them). Anyway, we can help and technology breakhroughs can be identified nowadays and here is an example:

We hope that our universal free health care systems of our generous countries will be able one day to offer some robotics limbs to the handicapped. Maybe we will have to wait until China builds them for us, but they seem to be more interested to design robots for military purposes (LOL).
