Cher tous,

Bonne lecture,

Certified Solving of the Forward Kinematics Problem with an exact Method for the general parallel Manipulator. Advanced Robotics, Volume 19, Number 9, October 2005, pp. 995-1025(31)

Dear all,

well, it took me some time to publish but now it is done.

This one is important since all y research relies on it. It reviews my work done during my PhD beginnings. I describe an exact and certified method to solve the forward kinematics problem of parallel manipulators. Altough there was a large amount of significant  work done by many researchers, at the beginning of my PhD, this difficult problem was left without a certified or exact method in the case of the general parallel manipulator.  Several researchers have studied and solved specific cases. Now, there is only two methods which lead to ceritifed results:
1) The solving of polynomial equation systems with algebra based on Gröbner bases according to the scheme introduced by Faugère and Rouillier and as applied to the FKP in my article.
2) The solving of any equation system using the Newton method applied with intervals according to Hansen as applied to the FKP by Merlet in his article.

The first cannot handle trigonometric functions and only manipulate integer or rational numbers.

The second might not find the solutions in all instances since the Newton method can have problems inverting a Jacobian matrix.

So, now, it really works if the manipulator is not in a singular position. The algerbaic method is still the fastest.

In principle, I would suggest that you obtain the paper through the official channels, but if it is too expensive to obtain, then you can dowload a copy from my website. This one is the not final version but the accepted paper before the minor corrections.

Have a good read,

Luc Rolland

Dear all, a train can hide a second one; just after publication of my first article, I was informed of the acceptance of my second one.The first article is the cornerstone of my research on parallel robots since it describes the exact method based on Gröbner bases and the rational univeriate representation. The proposed algebraic method is actually the only one insuring all solutions in all instances. The second article addresses the underlooked issue of kinematics modeling. I study the displacement based model of planar parallel manipulators.Luc RollandSynthesis on the Forward Kinematics Problem algebraic modeling for the planar parallel manipulator.
